• Use a bigger paint chip. It's difficult to visualize what an entire wall or room will look like based on a small paint chip from the store. Buying large quantities of paint and doing the whole project can cost a lot and yield to dissapointing results. Instead, buy a small can of paint and a poster board. Paint the board and try it out on various walls in the room to see how you like the color at different times of the day.
• After you've finished painting and before you've closed the can, paint a line on the outside of the can at the level of the remaining paint. Later you'll know how much paint is left and exactly what color the paint is.
• Just rub a little petroleum jelly on your hands before you begin painting to seal the pores in your hands and make paint easier to wash off.
