Many of us long for these hot summer days! It's the perfect time to leave town and go on that special get-away weekend or family vacation. It's what summer is all about, eating watermelon, drinking lemonade, swimming, and playing in the sun with the people you care about the most. But before you leave and head out of town, there are a few things you should do to prepare your home for it's vacation away from the family. Keep your home safe as you travel the summer away...

1. Keep a few lights on automatic timers, and unplug the rest to avoid surge damage from bad weather.

2. Check all windows and doors to make sure they're locked, this is often overlooked believe it or not!

3. Call your alarm company to give them contact info in case anything happens.

4. Leave a key with a Trusted neighbor or friend who can check on your home and pick up mail, magazines, etc.

5. Install a motion-activated light outside in especially dark areas around your home. Intruders flee from places they're visible.

6. Take expensive jewelry and keepsakes as well as important documents to safety-deposit boxes.

7. Make sure your pets are either going with you, or are well taken care of by a sitter, or kennel.

And finally be sure to have a fun and worry free vacation once you prepare your home for vacation!
