    • Buy plants that fit your climate and soil conditions
    • Use cuttings instead of buying more plants
    • Take softwood and hardwood stem cuttings to propagate some of your favorite shrubs
    • Choose pest resistant bulbs
    • Choose bulbs that multiply
    • Invest in self-seeding plants and let the wid do the dirty work
    • Choose long living perennials
    • Multiply your plants by dividing them
    • Check when they flower (plant flowers that flower at different times in the same beds)
    • Wait until the plant is resting to do any moving
    • Divide fall bloomers in the spring
