10 Things Recent Homebuyers Wished They Knew Before They Moved

Here is a list of ten things people who just moved wish they had known before they moved.

    1) What to tip movers: if you move out of state it is typical to tip 10-15%. If you move within the state tip $10-$20. If you are moving by yourself many moving companies offer unpackers to show up at your new location and help you unpack.

    2) Create a box checklist: on each box write a number and the name of the room where it belongs. Keep each box and number on a checklist to make sure you know you have them all. Keep one copy and give another to the movers.

    3) Dogs can get car sick: letting your dog ride with the window open not only looks natural but also helps keep them from getting car sick.

    4) Fish can get car sick: try to have the tank move as little as possible. Place it in the front seat in a box with blankets around it.

    5) Wood flooring needs several days to acclimate: wood flooring can't be installed for several days after it is delivered. It must lay with the box open for several days.  This is important to know when trying to schedule your boxes to arrive after the floor is installed.

    6) Give a trusted neighbor a spare key to your OLD house: there is always a chance you will leave something behind.

    7) Keep computer start up disks with you: what would you do if your laptop crashes while your waiting for your boxes.

    8) Hire a cleaner: moving is stressful enough there's no reason to handle all the dust you discover when the house is empty.

    9) Keep remotes with their electronic: some electronics only let you do things with the correct remote. Put all accessories in a bag and tape it to the corresponding electronic item.

    10) How to pack green: instead of using bubble wrap and packing peanuts use scarves, towels, and blankets to pack valuables.  Plus you won't have to dispose of all the packing peanuts.
