National Second Home Market Remains Bright

Second Home Market Remains Bright

by Peter G. Miller

In the midst of all the gloom and doom on the housing front, one remarkably-bright statistic has just been announced: Last week the National Association of Realtors reported that 12 percent of all existing home sales last year were not primary residences, they were instead vacation homes.

It turns out that a lot of us have second homes at the lake, the beach, in the mountains or just somewhere different. The idea that so many of us have not just one house but two is at least counter-intuitive given that almost 1.3 million homes were lost to foreclosure last year, according to figures from Realty Trac.com

Signs Your Movers are Scamming You!

If you had to list your biggest fears when moving to a new home, what would they be?

You might be worried about something valuable or sentimental breaking. Or, you might worry that a box would get lost along the way. Or, that the movers won't show up on time -- or perhaps at all.

But the one thing you probably aren't worrying about may be the biggest concern of all -- the moving company you hired is a scam company, and they're holding your stuff hostage until you fork over a wad of cash.

Looking for a lakehouse close to Indianapolis?

In 1999, my family and I decided to buy a lakehouse.  We wanted to be at a location that was less than a 2 hour drive (from our home in Carmel), had clean water, and was affordably priced.  After checking out all the lakes and reservoirs within that radius, we bought at Heritage Lake in Putnam County Indiana.  Heritage Lake is a private lake, located 7 miles west of Danville (just past the Hendricks County line).  From Carmel, is it roughly a one hour drive.  It isn't as crowded as many public lakes, because only property owners can put a boat on the water.   There is a full-time security guard that patrols the lake to make sure compliance is followed.  The lake also offers water that doesn't have rising ecoli or other bacteria.  Skiing and wave runners are allowed from sunup to sundown.  Fishing is also great!  There are a lot of bass and catfish in the lake.

If you have considered buying a lakehouse near Indy, give me a call at 846-FAST (3278.)  I'd be happy to give you a water (or land) tour of Heritage Lake, as well as show you current homes for sale.  It's the best kept secret in the state. See for yourself!
