Staging Tips- How to Declutter a Room
Step one – Prepare your sorting area
Choose a space, preferably indoors, where you can secure and sort through the possessions from the space you are preparing to declutter. You will need a generous amount of space, either on the floor or on shelves, to hold the items during the process.
Set up a sorting table and place a blank legal pad and pen on it. Collect any empty boxes or containers you have, packing tape, packing tissue, scissors, a utility knife, several "Sharpie" markers, some sticky notes, file folders, paper clips, a stapler with extra staples, and rubber bands, and place them in an organized way under the table. Going forward, you can use a radio in this area, but, preferably, leave your phones and televisions elsewhere.
ASP Staging
Last week I received my ASP staging designation. The Accredited Staging Professional (ASP) is one who has taken classes to make a home ready for market. It isn't about decorating. It is about de-cluttering and thinning out each room of the house, and presenting the home to the market. I think of it like selling an existing car. If any auto owner wanted to get top dollar for their car, they would detail their car, to make it look as good as possible. Home staging works the same way. And, the results are proof of the value! Staged home sell, on the average, 3 times faster than non-staged homes. And, the sellers make more money! If you are thinking of selling, have your home staged prior to putting the sign in the yard. You'll be glad you did!
